Hubballi: German Shepherd Charlie was seven-year-old from Dharwad saved the life of Rottweiler Diesel Vijayapura 5 months by donating his blood on Thursday.
Veterinarian, Dr.
Anil Patil, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad said: “Rottweiler suffers from pyoperitoneum (pussy accumulation in the stomach).
The owner, Dr.
Shashikumar Patil took him to care.
We did an emergency operation but soon after that, we really needed blood.
“He added:” I contacted the rescue of Somashekhar Chanhashetti’s dog from Dharwad who brought Charlie.
We draw 1 unit (350-400ml) of blood and transfer it to Rottweiler.
“He said,” Blood donations such a dog is very rare; they happen maybe a year Once.
In the first blood transfusion, we proceed without matching blood and at 99% of cases, there will be no reaction or side effects.
In this case, we took the opportunity and transferred Charlie’s blood to Diesel (named after Diesel Vin ‘Fast & Furious’ Fame).
Now, the puppy is out of danger.

About 15 days ago, he swallowed a name plate pinned to apron while playing at home.
We took him to a local animal hospital where he was operated and the name plate was removed from the stomach.
But, a week later, he developed an accumulated infection and nanah.
I took him to Dr Anil Patil last week and he did surgery to remove pus.
He had lived in Dharwad for a week to make sure the puppy made a full recovery.
