Rajkot: When the engine is running out of breath trying to overcome the Covid situation, some local administration decides to take health problems into their own hands.
One of them is Mota Angiya’s Panchayat Village from Nakhatrana Taluka, an ancient village of Kutch District.
Although long distance and disconnected from all modern facilities, the village has managed to reach a historical milestone in progressive thinking when it has recently paved the way for Balika Panchayat – a Panchayat for, by young girls – for women’s empowerment in the village.
Unfortunately, the damage to the Covid Killer virus did not set aside this village too.
But thanks to the Panang, who did not linger for the help of the government alone, the lives of many people were saved after 19 people were tested positive in the village with a population of 1,500 and only five covid infections.
With the help of NGOs, Panchayat Village installed a kiosk that not only connects doctors from big cities on a large screen but also helped do vital tests on the spot and also provided facilities to doctors to prescribe medicines and tests.
And what’s more, consultation is done freely because the villagers are not required to pay money to Pancayat.
Realizing that the health of his own people is his responsibility, Panchayat began collecting village population health data.
Sarpanch Iqbal Ghanchi began contacting doctors and government officials to implement the idea of Helath kiosks in the village and during the process of coming up with ‘punjanm’, an NGO working in the health, education and livelihood sectors in around eight countries.
NGOs have developed customized health kiosks in remote villages for instant care.
The first health kiosk was installed in Telangana and the two kiosks were installed at the Pancrayat Office of this village last week.
“We do not have medical facilities in the village.
The closest government or personal facilities are in Nakhatrana, which is six km.

A large screen connects patients with doctors on live broadcasts using the internet and to ensure that the telemedicine process runs smoothly, Panchayat has also involved one Asha worker to help people in medical consultation.
