LOS ANGELES: Los Angeles County, the most dense in the US, reported 3,058 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, a one-day surge in the highest since February 13.
In a statement on Friday, the Los Angeles Public Ministry of Health said that it was the third consecutive day with more than 2,500 cases of everyday, reported the Xinhua news agency.
With a new surge, the total district infection currently reaches 1,279,171.
During the last four days, more than 10,000 cases were reported in county, home to more than 10 million residents.
On Friday, 655 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized in the county, while the test level of the test was 5.2%, increased from 4% seven days ago, according to the department.
Health officials urged residents to get vaccinations amid the surge in the Delta variant in the county, the warning of people who were not vaccinated to be infected at the level of 2.7 times was only a month ago.
“If we don’t have 5.3 million people fully vaccinated in La County, we might see almost double the current number of cases,” Barbara Ferrer, Director of Regional Public Health, quoted in the statement.
The local health department also reported seven new deaths in the same 24 hour period, which took toll victims as a whole to 24,614.
Official data shows that nearly 10.3 million county residents, including those who do not qualify for vaccines, 52% are fully vaccinated and 59% have received at least one dose.
