La Palma: The authorities told several thousand residents of La Palma to stay at home because air quality deteriorated because the volcano erupted on the Island of Spain spewed hot red lava and thick black smoke clouds.
Emergency services issued locking orders on Friday night for people in Los Llanos de Aridane and El Paso, two worst-affected cities.
“The new key is as a consequence of meteorological conditions that prevent gas dispersion and keep them at a low atmospheric level,” said emergency services in a statement.
They said the kuncian would affect around 3,500 people.
Those affected had been told to keep their doors and windows closed and to decide to warm up and air conditioning to prevent the entry of air outside.
Lockdown has been booked in the San Borondon area, Marina Alta, Marina Baja and La Condesa.
About 6,000 people have been evacuated from their homes since Cumbre Vieja Volcano began to erupt on September 19.
More than 800 buildings have been destroyed on the island, which has a population of around 83,000 and is one of the Islands that forms the Canary Islands in the Atlantic.
On Friday, lava flowed from a new ventilation described by the Volcanology Institute of Canaries as a new “focus of the eruption”.
Volcanoes are experiencing “intense activity”, Miguel Angel Morcuende, Director of the Pevolca Response Committee, told a press conference on Friday.
But he also puts the eruption into a wider context of islands.
“Less than 8% of the islands are influenced by the volcano.
The rest leads normal life,” he said.
