S Rameshmysuru: With the cancer level continues to increase in Chamarajanagar District, patients must travel to MySuru and Bengaluru for treatment in the state, a private hospital.
But accommodation and travel costs make unsustainable treatment.
Even after 23 years of formation, Chamarajanagar Regency did not have a screening unit and cancer processing facilities.
According to district supervision reports, the health authority has identified 636 cases of cancer – 237 men and 399 women – in the last three years.
Chamarajanagar reported the highest number of women diagnosed with cancer.
District reported 245 cancer cases on December 202-22 only.
Of this number, 153 are women and 92 men.
At 153 women, 70 had been diagnosed with cervical cancer and 39 with breast cancer.
Of the 92 men, 38 suffer from lung cancer, 30 cancerous mouths and the rest have been diagnosed with other types of cancer.
