With government planning to enable schools to conduct regular classes for a value of 1-5, several schools in Dakshina Kannada District, especially those who have higher number of students on roll, tend to face the lack of classrooms due to social distance norms.
The school has been reopened for class 6 and above and the government has enabled them to function at 100% capacity.
To maintain social distance and other Covid-19 protocols, schools with more than 40 children have divided it into two batches.
Two or a maximum of three students are permitted per bench.
To accommodate all students, schools have used a blank primary classroom.
“At present, schools have followed social distance.
But if all students are on campus at the same time, schools with limited classrooms tend to face problems in obeying SOPs,” Recognizing an official from the Public Instruction Department.
Shambhu Shankar, Coordinator, Block Resource Center, Belthangady Taluk, shows that the shortcomings tend to be more acute in private schools than the government.
However, he said it could be sorted by the department issued a revised guideline.
Prakash Anchan, who heads Sarkari Shaale’s bulletological bullion (protecting and promoting government schools) suggest conducting classes in batches in the morning and evening.
“It will be difficult for several schools with high reception, including government schools that do not have additional classrooms, to follow social distance on campus,” he said.
Other officials from the Ministry of Public Instruction said if school is required to strictly follow the SOP, they need to have a session in a batch for several months.
“Students who arrive at noon can have midday food and continue with class, while the morning batch students can have lunch and go home.” Malleswamy DDPI is not available for comments.
