Chennai: For the third day in a row, some vaccine centers in all states, including Chennai, are closed and special outreach camps stalled, because the country does not have an adequate vaccine.
On Wednesday, the state was vaccinated 66,214 people.
After vaccimating more than 16 lakh people during Mega Camp on Sunday, the state did not hold a camp on Monday due to lack of vaccines.
On Tuesday, he vaccinated 44,559 people.
Between Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, Tamil Nadu received around 4 doses of lakh covishield and a dose of 1 lakh covaxin.
“Many centers do not have vaccines on Wednesday because they are still on their way,” said Public Health Director Dr.
TS Selva Vinayagam.
The average vaccination was around 2,9lakh a day in August and 2.1 lakh in July.
“We hold Mega camp every week to increase coverage.
Two mega camps have pushed our daily average to more than 5 lakh vaccines a day,” he said.
Until Tuesday, nearly 56% of 6 crore adults have received one vaccine dose and 17% have received two doses.
While more than 75% of people in Coimbatore and Kancheepuram have taken one dose, 73% of people in nilgiris and 70% in Tiruppur have taken a dose.
In Chennai, 67% of people have taken at least one dose.
However, in some districts, less than half the population has received the first dose.
“We plan to continue the Mega Camp without reducing daily vaccination.
For this we have asked the center to increase our dose up to 50 lakh a week,” he said.
The state expects at least 50,000 covaxin doses and 2 doses of lakh covishield by 7.15 in the morning.
This center has promised to send another batch of 5.45 lakh vaccine doses during the day, he said.
