RANCHI: Amid ongoing language row, representatives of Magahi, Bhojpuri and Angika speaking community in Ranchi on Sunday demanded the resignation of the education minister Jagarnath country Mahto.
All India Bhojpuri, Magahi, Maithili Angika Manch (AIBMMAM), which is supported by a splinter RJD RJD’s clothing Loktantrik, harshly criticized the recent statement Mahto in which he allegedly called Biharis as infiltrators and sought his immediate resignation on moral grounds.
Dhanbad and Bokaro are on simmer for a few days after the state government notified Bhojpuri, Maithili Angika and as a regional language for the recruitment of district level recently.
Protesters demonstrating against the minister Hemant Soren claimed that these languages must be replaced with Khorta, which is mainly used in the area.
“Nearly 60% of residents in two-thirds of Jharkhand speak Bhojpuri, Magahi, Angika and Maithili.
We strongly condemn concerted effort to target this slice of the population in the name of the residence, “said Kailash Yadav, President of this outfit ,.
Mahto had been kicked in a row recently when he allegedly made a strong statement against the Bihari community in the state.
“It was agreed that we would soon have a symposium with the intellectual and social clothes and lime statewide protests against Mahto.
The government is now trying to create unrest in the country in the name of the language, “he added.
On February 4, the Adivasi Chatra Sangh burnt effigies of Soren in Ranchi and demanded Bhojpuri, Magahi, Maithili and Angika omitted from the list of regional languages.
While the JMM and the Congress has not officially take a position on this issue, there are brewing dissent in their ranks with the government notification.
Silli former JMM MLA Amit Mahto has threatened to withdraw from the primary membership of the party if the government did not implement the new residency policy with the land records in 1932 as the cut off.
“The party is currently on a wait and watch mode,” said a senior Congress leader TOI.
