Agra: The Ministry of Forestry Up filed a police complaint against seven residents of Mathura Village after a five-year-old Male Leopard was found dead in the fields earlier this month.
During the investigation, it was found that the leopard died after being trapped in the wire of the content created by the locals to save their plants from wild animals.
Post mortem reports from wild cats are still awaited.
The FIR was registered with three identified and four unknown people under 9, 39, 51, and 52 wildlife laws (protection), 1972 at the Vrindavan Kotwali police station in the complaint submitted by the Ministry of Forestry officials.
Officials said that the animal seemed to be trapped in a snare, which tightened and strangled after trying to free himself.
Partial Department of Forest Officer Om Prakash Sharma said that the leopard was found dead in the corner of the farm and his hair spread and the snare created from the clutch wire was also found from the place involved on it.
He said, “The villagers have planned to bury the leopards but cannot do it because of fast-spread information.” The leopard’s body was sent to Ivri Bareilly for autopsy after a preliminary examination.
According to forest officials, they got a tip and when they arrived in the field, they found a dead leopard.
This is a violation under various parts of the Wild Life Act (Protection), 1972.
SP (City) MP Singh told TII that there was no arrest that had been made so far and investigations were underway.
