Hyderabad: Following heavy rain Monday, the route to Shamshabad and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) through PVNR Expressway was disrupted for a while on Tuesday after Appa Cheruvu began to overflow on the 44 national highway near the village of Gangahad.
While traffic was diverted to the outer ring road (ORR), opened for two-directional traffic around 2pm.
Appa Cheruvu is a small water body between Lake Jalpally and Premavathi Lake.
Across the bottom of the construction near Gaganpahad adds to the commuter misery when the road becomes very narrow, leading to a vehicle congestion in one of the busiest NH-44 stretches connecting the city to RGIA in Shamshabad.
“I’m worried I will miss my flight because I’m not aware of the transfer of traffic when I leave home.
It takes almost 30 minutes to cross the stretch and finally go to the airport,” said Vamshi Krishna, a technician traveling to Bengaluru.
Cyberabad police advised commuters traveling towards Rgia, Kurnool, Bengaluru using ORR.
Thus, traffic was transferred at Attapur Pillar Number 215 towards the ORR service road.
Likewise, the traffic was also transferred to Junction Laxmiguda towards Jalpally-Pahadharif-RGIA.
“The water was diverted from upstream and from downstream.
The irrigation department placed several sandbags as a temporary step to stop the excess water from flowing to NH-44,” said B Nagender Good, Escuricive Engineer, Rajendranagar Circle, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
Partial traffic was restored around 10am after the police convert two-way roads into one direction to cleanse the traffic jam.
Given the Overflow of Himayattagar on Jalan Orr service, the traffic to Shamshabad from Telangana State Police Academy (TSPA) on the road service was diverted at Tspa-Khaleejkhan Dargah-Kismatpur-Budwel Extension-Pillar number 194-Aramhar.
