Patna: At least two people died, allegedly due to hooch poisoning, in Ballipur Village under the Hathauri police station in the Samastipur district on Tuesday.
They had consumed fake liquor on the function of marriage in the village on Sunday night, police said.
The deceased was identified as Shyam Kamti (34) and Prabhat Bharti (23).
Prabhat wore ventilator support at Samastipur Hospital after his condition deteriorated, but he died around 11am on Tuesday.
Shyam was referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), but died on the way around 4pm.
DM Shashank Shubhankar, Samastipur SP Manavjit Singh Dhillon and other senior officers rushed to the night for detailed investigations.
When contacted, Dhillon said the door-to-door survey was carried out in the village, but no one else was found sick.
“Clinics and hospitals nearby have also been examined,” Dhillon told Ti by telephone.
He said the police came to find out from the villagers that the two deceased had consumed liquor on the functions of the Kamti Rajkumar daughter’s wedding on Sunday night.
“He is very poor.
The villagers have contributed to the girl’s marriage,” SP said.
Dhillon said Shyam and Prabhat were Rajkumar’s neighbors and allegedly consuming liquor at his residence.
“However, their family members have not said anything to the police.
Because both of them are dead, unclear who else consumes liquor with them,” SP said.
SP said the police seized Shyam and Prabhat’s body for autopsy.
“Prabhat’s postmortem body has been completed,” he said.
SP said things would be clear of the autopsy report.
He said the police also knew about the death of one Raghu Kamti (62) in the village on Sunday.
“His body was cremated.
However, his family members and villagers said he did not attend a wedding or consumed liquor,” Dhillon said.
