Thiruvananthapuram / Palackad: Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty on Sunday said the state must impose a shedding load if the crisis faced by the country because the lack of coal-based power plants continues.
He has held a meeting on Monday to discuss the situation.
“Coal deficiencies have influenced power plants in this country and the power crisis is expected to continue for almost six months.
State Electric Board Kerala (KSEB) monitors the situation and people must work with reduced power use, especially during rush hour,” said Krishnankutty to reporters.
The state has experienced a shortage of 15% of the central pond for the past few days after the closure of four thermal stations due to lack of coal.
“There is a lack of power of 1,000 MW from the central pond.
Yesterday (Saturday), we only received 30% of our daily quota from Kudankulam …
if the situation continues like this for a long time, we must impose a power outage,” said Minister.
Kerala largely depends on hydroelectric projects but there is a lack of power allocation from the central pond.
There is also the possibility of a country that faces a reduction in power quota from other sources based on a long-term contract.
Krishnankutty said he supported Power Hydel projects and that Kerala had great potential.
He said 3,000 TMC Air is available, where 1,700 TMC can be used for power plants.
“But we don’t use the same.
We need to provide cheap electricity for the industry to attract investment.
At present, from idukki, we produce electricity at a cost of 0.51 Paise per unit.
However, yesterday during rush hour we had to buy an equal RS 18 per Unit, “he said.
The excess rainfall which is about coal movements and coal-based power plants that produce less because high-level records have resulted in a large energy crisis in various countries.
About 70% of Indian power plants are based on coal.
Of the total 135 thermal power stations in the country, 110 faces coal shortages now.
The KSEB authorities also warn the restrictions on the power supply during peak hours if consumption rises and asks consumers to reduce power consumption as minimal as possible.
Consumers must also bear the burden of the power of KSEB purchases from outside at the exorbitant level.
