Low rebates are translated into lower Civic tax collection in VMC

Written by news2in

Vadodara: Businesses have been opened and income includes GST staring, but when it comes to Civic tax, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) report card does not look too good.
This has so far collected a lower tax compared to what he did last year.
VMC collects property tax and other fees as part of the annual tax bill.
It must be expected that with economic activities, tax collection will also see an increase.
But it’s not so far.
Until August 15 this year, VMC had collected Rs 129.94 against the tax bill.
In the appropriate period last year, VMC had collected Rs 142.27 as tax.
There is a shortage of Rs 12.33crore.
The reason for the shortcomings lies at the discount that the civil body has offered.
After the Pandemic Covid-19 since last year VMC has given a discount on various heads in property tax bills since last year.
VMC has provided a discount of 20 percent in the four components of the property tax bill last year.
But this year it reduces discounts to five percent for non-housing and 10 percent properties for housing properties.
The rebate was also reduced into two components of property tax unlike the previous four.
“We hope that tax collection will take after the bill reaches people.
The shortcomings are also not too worrying,” said the Assistant Commissioner of Municipal (income), Jignesh Gohil.
Apart from the rebates given in the financial year of 2020-21, VMC has exceeded tax collection compared to the previous year.
VMC has collected Rs 382.46crore in 2020-21 and this increased to Rs 391.91crore at 2021-22.
