Chennai: In an effort to add dignity to the lives of members of the LGBTQIA + community, Madras High Court has produced a standard style sheet – to be followed by media in their news articles about the community.
Justice N Anand Venkatesh also asks for the media, especially the Tamil media, to adopt the style sheet until the state government appears with glossary to be followed by the media.
“This court wants to make a truly demand for the media to consider the words and expressions mentioned in the glossary, to be used when dealing with people owned by the LGBTQIA + community,” said the judge.
If these words and expressions are used regularly, it will be a general practice and it will pave the way for a dignified identity for people owned by this community, the court added.
“This court provides trust in the media that they will seriously consider the request made by this court and began to apply the same for the next,” said the judge.
The problem is related to the defense transferred by the same-sex couple who faced harassment in the hands of the police and their parents.
Initially, when the request came to hear, Justice Anand Venkatesh chose to undergo counseling sessions, because he felt that he did not have an understanding of the problems faced by the community.
The judge then passed a series of orders that touched the need for sensitive, especially justice and police, about this problem.
The court also highlights the need to improve the medical education curriculum to merek medical practitioners.
On December 23, when the application to listen, Advocacy S Manuraj, who initially represented the applicant and now helped the court, circulating a brief note that focuses on standard guidelines / prescriptive glossary containing words and expressions that will be used by the press and expression that will be used by press and expression.
And the media when speaking to people included in the LGBTQIA + community.
Take a note on the note, the court passes the order.
