He said the session site could be enhanced quickly, based on response and needs.
A state health official said, “We have allocated nearly 650 covid session sites for the age group 15-18 on January 3, where only covaxin will be given to beneficiaries.
We have not set targets of teenagers in this category to be vaccinated per day because It will depend on the response on the first day.
If the response is good, the number of vaccination centers can be improved.
“Senior officials stated that a separate Covaxin site was allocated for teen vaccination as a preventive problem.
“These sites will not be provided with covishield and will only provide Covaxin to the beneficiaries to prevent the possibility of mixtures between two temporary vaccines,” said the official, added that adult inoculation would continue on these sites.
According to the recent direction of the United States, Bharat Biotech Covaxin will be used to vaccinate adolescents in the age group 15-18 years.
This center has suggested districts to identify session sites specifically for vaccination groups aged 15-18 years.
His direction states that he must be ascertained that there is no mixing vaccine carried out, therefore, preferably separate session sites must be identified.
State officials claim that there are no plans to vaccinate in school so far, with the current period of Christmas holiday period.
“But if necessary, depending on the response after January 3, the appropriate decision will be taken.
There are plans to resolve the first dose vaccination of adolescents who qualify in this age group in the next three months, provided the response is good,” one of them said.
Officials of the State Public Health Department stated that the vaccination of this age group (15-18 years) could not have an impact on ongoing vaccination drives for adults because 650 session sites were a small number in average every day at 9,000-10,000.
Maharashtra has nearly 60.63 beneficiaries of the lakh in the 15-18 year age group, in accordance with the projection of the trade union government.
Pune District has almost 5.8 lakh teenagers in this category.
From them, more than 2.2 lakh was within the limit of Pune Civic, 1.5 lakh was in the city of Pimpri Chinchwad and 2.1 lakh in Pune rustic.
