Pune: A cybercriminal, who poses as a customer service executive from a public sector bank, deceives a 32-year-old man from Satara by Rs 2.27 lakh with the pretext of helping him update his mobile banking application.
Fraudsters do not only suck money from a complainant bank account, but also get loans based on two fixed deposits (FDS) in the same bank.
The victim on Thursday approached the police of Satara City to file a complaint.
This case was transferred to the Chinchwad police because the complainant was in rented accommodation in this area on September 28, when the incident occurred.
An officer from Police Chinchwad said the victim worked in a private company in twin cities.
“On Tuesday this week, the mobile banking application was not functioning, so he called the customer service number he found online.
The person he was talking to told him to download the Anydesk application on his cellphone, which was often misused to get access to the target device.” Immediately , the complainant opens the bank application and enters the OTP he has received.
“Fraudsters told him that he could access the application again in some time.
But when the complainant examined his e-wallet for what he thought was Rs 24,000 in his account, he only found Rs 10,” the police said.
When the bank branch was in Satara, the complainant rushed there the next day, only to find that fraudsters had also obtained a loan of Rs 2.03 lakh based on two FDS with the bank.
In total, he was tricked by Rs 2,27 lakh.
Prima Facie, Probe has revealed that part of the money was transferred to a bank account in the Medak Telangana District, and the part to a bank account in New Delhi.
