Pune: Reports of fresh genome sequencing from the country have revealed that sub-genealogy Omicron, BA.2, slowly getting land in the community and the Delta variant is mostly responsible for hospitalization of covid patients.
BA.2 subleelineage from Omicron, was found in less than 10% of the covid samples from Maharashtra in early December, now in 50% of sequential samples, senior officials said from the Ministry of Health Public Health.
The official said BA.2 growth in the community was gradual.
“We see more ba.2 in the community in the state of before.
BA.1 previously found more in international travelers.
But the presence of BA2 has increased, especially in community samples.” In the sample sent from the hospital, part of the plan to check which variant sent people to the hospital, Delta was still dominant.
The State Disease Supervision Officer Dr.
Pradeep Awate said they had sent samples from the hospital for more than a week now and Omicron had not been found in those who were hospitalized.
“This is mostly delta,” he said.
Awate added, “We have found that Omicron is not significantly present in the sample being hospitalized, which mostly means that infected patients do not require hospitalization.
Those with this variant continue to have mild symptoms and do not need hospital care.” There are concerns over the rapid spread of BA.2.
But members of the State Task Force, Dr.
Shashank Joshi said that regardless of the emergence of the Omicron sub-variants, data showed low hospitalization.
“The third behavior of sub-variants (BA.1, BA.2, BA.3) clearly shows covid nose and throat.
It is considered BA.2 can cause a person to lose an smoke, but more data is needed for this verification.
That said , Three sub-variant behaviors, clinical patterns appear more or less the same, with most hospitalizations at this time with Covid ‘and not because of infection, “said Dr.
Joshi.
But he added that the main concern with BA.2 is the possibility of a sub-variant which causes “waves in waves”.
“Which is also speculative.
The worries that have been marked in Norway, Denmark and Britain are the possibilities of those infected with BA.1 or BA.3 omicron reinfected with BA.2, which is why we continue to emphasize Covid – inappropriate behavior for all, including Those who recovered from Omicron, “he said.
Joshi said the country still has a derivative delta circulating, around 5-15%.
“Omicron is the dominant variant in Maharashtra, but hasn’t passed 90%, like in some northern states including New Delhi.
Delta occasionally we see hitching lungs still need aggressive therapy,” he said.
Awate said the supervision would continue the sample of the hospital.
Plans also to increase batches.
Scientists with sequencing efforts supported by the Rockefeller Foundation in Pune said it was not clear whether sub-variants were more transmitted or worse than Omicron BA.1.
But they said the more samples from Pune and Mumbai vomited BA.2.
Dr.
Anu Raghunathan, the main senior scientist and project progress in the CSIR-NCL, said, “When we started the wave genome sequencing training in December last year, we saw more BA.1.
But in mid-January, we saw an increase in BA.2 .
Both sub-lineage now at nearly 50:50, based on a sample that we have installed this month from Pune.
“Sequencing the genome of countries that apply for Dr Rajesh Karkyakarte said they were monitoring the situation.
“We plan a sample report from all hospital admissions in the state next month,” he said.
