KABUL: The winner of the Nobel Peace Prize Malala Yousafzai, who was shot by Pakistan Taliban as a student, has urged Afghan’s new ruler to let the girls return to school.
It has been a month since the hardline of the Taliban Islam, which seizes power in August, excludes girls from returning to high school when ordering a boy back to class.
The Taliban has claimed they will allow girls to return once they ensure more stringent security and separation under their interpretation of Islamic law – but many are skeptical.
“To the Taliban authorities …
reverses the de facto ban on the education of girls and immediately opened women’s middle school,” Yousafzai said and a number of Afghan women’s rights activists said in an open letter published on Sundays.
Yousafzai called the leaders of Muslim countries to explain to the Taliban that “the religion does not justify preventing the girls from going to school”.
“Afghanistan is now the only country in the world that prohibits the education of girls,” said the authors, who put the Head of the Afghan Human Rights Commission under the last Government supported by US Shaharzad Akbar.
The authors asked the G20 world leaders to provide urgent funds for education plans for Afghan children.
A petition next to the letter on Monday received more than 640,000 signatures.
Yousafzai Educational Activists were shot by terrorists from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, the Afghan Taliban branch, in their hometown in the Swat Valley while on the school bus in 2012.
Now aged 24 years, he advocated for girls’ education, with Malala Nirlabanya funds after investing $ 2 million in Afghanistan.
