Veteran actor GK Pillai died on Friday morning, due to age-related diseases.
He is 97.
Born in Varkala, Thiruvananthapuram, GK Pillai served in the Indian Army and India India, before browsing into the film.
He debuted in the Malayalam film industry with the release of 1954 ‘Snehaustema’.
The film was directed by SS Rajan and was written by Ponkunnam Varkey.
GK Pillai grabs the attention of the Cowepile, mostly plays a villain character.
He was also a popular face in historical films such as ‘Thacholi Aambu’, ‘Palattu Kunjikannan’ and even ‘diyottam’ iconic, released in 1982, who also marked the 70mm first film in South India.
He was very active in M-Town until the late 1980s and somehow disappeared from the spotlight during the 1990s, then made his second ining in the 2000s.
He had acted more than 325 films in his entire career and several popular films including, ‘Ashwamedam’, ‘Aromalunni’, ‘Chola’, ‘Aanakkalari’ and ‘Karyasthan’.
GK Pillai then then became the name of the household for the television audience in Kerala.
He debuted on TV with 2004 horror soap ‘Kadamattathu Kathanar’ and shot to fame playing Colonel Jagannatha Varma, Jayanthi’s father in 2011 ‘KukuKapoovu’.
GK Pillai, wife Ulpalakshi Amma died a few years ago.
He survived his children – Prathapachandran, Chandramohan, Priyadarshan, Srekala, Sreelekha, and Sreekumari.
