MANGALURU: Misleading data being fed to kids, which flu shots can assist in preventing Covid-19, has observed paediatricians being bombarded with enquiries for influenza shots, following reports surfaced the third wave of Covid-19 is predicted to especially affect kids.
Dr Santosh T Soans, professor and HoD paediatrics, AJ Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, stated that paediatricians are receiving enquiries on influenza shots across India.
Dr Soans, who heads the scientific seat for the International Paediatric Association, 2023, told TOI there were reports which BCG and MMR vaccines may assist in preventing Covid-19, but there’s not been any evidence to indicate the same.
A recent interview with the paediatric activity force with Maharashtra authorities physicians discussed the value of regular vaccination, which was likely abbreviated as flu shots can assist in preventing Covid-19, he explained.
“Every child around age 5 could get approximately 2-3 attacks of influenza, along with the Indian Academy of Paediatrics recommends giving flu shots to children each yearup to age five, particularly in the months of May and June.

Dr Soundarya M, paediatrician, KMC Hospital, Mangaluru, also stated there’s an increase in enquiries for influenza shots in parents.
The influenza vaccine covers the flu virus Type A and B, resulting in the influenza, rather than the book coronavirus.
Prices to the vaccine to stop influenza ranges from Rs 1,000- to Rs 1,500.
The vaccine could be administered to children over 6 weeks.
Kids need two doses to initial vaccination and resistance.
