Margao Civic Body holds the drive to expel illegal vendors

Margao: After the pressure of the Gandhi market vegetable vendor association and Readymade to get rid of illegal vendors squatting around the market area, Chairman of the City Council of Margao, Lyndon Pereira said on Tuesday that the city council will travel against the vendors and illegal vendors this week.
“The head of the officer and myself have made a decision to travel this week against those who sell illegal items on the road.
The shop owners do not get a business because of this illegal vendor.
It happens around the Gandhi market and the new market,” he said.
Pereira said illegal vendors restart their activities in one or two of the drives.
When asked why the drive did not take place, Pereira quoted the lack of staff.
The council that used to have four market inspectors, now has two who also have jobs in the office to issue income certificates.
When asked about the supervisor, he said only one fixed market supervisor and added that the officer’s head would instruct market inspectors to appoint a supervisor to overcome illegal activities.
The association filed a memorandum to the Board, giving 15 days to act against illegal vendors who eat into their business, failed that had threatened to hold Morcha.
The President of the Association of Rajendra Agrayaonkar told Mediodperson that those who sold vegetables lose business and hence destroyed them spoiled.
“Illegal vendors sell vegetables everywhere, so what will they do? For two months we have told the council to conduct surveys to identify illegal vendors and take action, but nothing is done.
They act against one vendor near the bus stand KTC.
They have our full support, but why act only against one vendor? He said.
