Nagpur: In the main push for the cochlear implant project, IGGMCH (Mayo Hospital) began a sophisticated audiometric hall in the ear, OPD’s nose throat (ENT) from Monday.
Minister of Guard Guards Nitin Raut inaugurated facilities on Sunday.
This facility will help assess children’s hearing abilities and elders, and prescribe appropriate care / recovery.
So far the lack of facilities delayed began the treatment of children under 5 years suffering from hearing and losing speech.
This facility will have an audiometer, soundproof room, brain stem generating audiometry (bera) machines and otolacoustic emissions (OAE).
This will be deployed to assess children and certify patients hearing loss after damage to the ear or bone drum.
Dr.
Jeevan Vedi, Head and Professor, ENT Department of IGGMCH, said this is an additional procedure such as Bera, OAE and Audiometry for children’s evaluation.
“Since 2017, the Cochlear implant center functions at IGGMCH and until the 50th of the implants have been carried out in children.
Now, many people from Central India and other parts of Maharashtra will come.
The department always needs space for this assessment without contamination,” he said.
Coclea implant assessment is carried out every Tuesday at IGGMCH.
Children are evaluated thoroughly in MRI, CT scan, ENT examination and thus recommends cochlear implants.
The evaluation file was submitted to Mumbai where in assistance for disabled schemes, they issued a free cochlear implant.
Every cochlear implant costs RS7 Lakh and the previous patient must go to Mumbai, Chennai or Delhi.
Dr.
Vedi added that many times the residents came to their disability certification.
“The original case needs to be assessed through an audiometry test.
It is done on an audiometer.
There are other vote opportunities that crawl if the test is done in open space.
Therefore, the total soundproof room is needed.
In a perfect setting, checked whether the subject can hear the lowest or no sound, To assess disability, “he said.
Another benefit is verified if someone really suffers from hearing loss or he pretends to be deaf.
“Surgeons and audiologists make the subject sit in the audience room and start a different sound experiment.
It helps in understanding if the person pretends to be deaf to claim a certificate of disability.
The third benefit is if the drum drum is damaged or the ear bone is disturbed, the audiiometric can tell Which problem and surgery are needed, “he said.
Dr.
Vedi further said that Test Bera requires a child to be sedated.
“As EKG tells someone has suffered a heart attack, the engine bera tells whether a child is normal or deaf,” he said.
