Vadodara: Crowding obsession at the accident site and filming incident on cellphones rather than helping the victim claim the life of a man in the Chhani area on Saturday night.
A 50-year-old mechanic surrendered to burn injury when the automatic rickshaw burned during welding work at a workshop in Chhani.
Fire officials said that Hussain Khan Pathhan, who lived near the Chhayapuri train station, was busy doing welding work when his spark caused the fire to swallow automatic pedicab and Pathan.
“The man was caught fire, but no observer who cared to pull him out or call the fire brigade or ambulance.
Instead, they all took photos and recorded videos of accidents on their cellphones,” said Fire Extinguisher Harshwardhan Puwar from Chhani Fire Station .
A firefighter, who passed in place, was watching the crowd and burning vehicle and immediately told the fire brigade and ambulance.
A firefight team reached a place in a few minutes and attracted Pathan who did not consciously get out of the fire.
108 Ambulance staff examined Pathan and declared him dead.
The fire was watered quickly and Pathhan’s body shifted to the SSG hospital for Postmortem.
“It is possible that there may be some gas leaks in the car that might cause fire.
Causes will definitely be known after the right investigation,” said a police officer.
The case of unintentional death was registered at the Chhani Police Station.
