Coimbatore: Variety Police Hall on Thursday was arrested by Vinoth Jain, 46, from Rangai Gounder Street in Ward 80, because it attacked a women’s maintenance worker from Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation, who asked him to separate waste before handing it to the Civic body.
The victim, Jothialya, collected garbage on Thursday morning when Jain handed over a bag full of garbage, said an official Wing Health Corporation.
“Jothiamal found it containing waste that could be described and could not be ignored and asked the man to separate it.
Jain became angry and involved in a verbal duel with Jothimmal.
He then hit him hard on his face, he lounced him.
His colleagues took him to the College Medical Hospital Coimbatore , “he said.
Corporate officials, including the corporate commissioner King Gopal Sunkara, visited Jothiamal in the hospital.
The Commissioner instructed city health workers to investigate the incident and take legal action against the attacker.
The police have collected CCTV recordings from the road that showed all incidents.
Meanwhile, JothiaMal, in the video, urged authority to take attackers.
“I have collected garbage from the road for the past 35 years, but never faced such a situation before,” he said.
Representatives from the sanitation worker association said that the Corporation has made separation of mandatory waste.
“We have been instructed to collect two tons of separate waste from any ward per day.
But most of the population is not interested in the separation of waste,” he said.
“They are not aware of the rules of solid waste management, 2016, which says mandatory segregation.” Jain has been ordered under various parts of the IPC and the caste and the scheduled tribe (prevention of atrocities) ACT, 1989.
