Men lost ₹ 16 lakh in fake KYC verification

Thane: A 58-year-old man was tricked by RS 16 lakh by online fraudsters who posed as personnel to work with their cellular service providers and asked him to detail the debit card with the pretext of KYC (know customers) verification.
The complainant is a retired population of Waghbil.
A police officer said the victim received a call at around 12:30 a.m.
on Thursday from an unknown number.
A claim to work for cellular service providers told the victim that his cellphone number would be cut off unless he completed KYC verification.
The accusation told him to download two applications.
“Meanwhile, the defendant asked for the details of the debit card,” said a rude police officer.
The victim received OTP in the number.
Conman tells him that this is for Rs 10 transactions as processing fees for KYC.
Victims shared OTP and received several text messages stating that RS 16 Lakh was debited from his account.
