Berlin: Chancellor Angela Merkel said the latest surge in Covid-19 infection was worse than anything experienced by Germany so far and called for more stringent restrictions to help examine the spread.
Merkel told the officials from his Christian Democratic Party on Monday that the situation was “very dramatic” and warned that some hospitals would soon be overwhelmed except the fourth wave of the pandemic was damaged, according to someone who was familiar with his statement.
He said many citizens did not seem to understand the severity of the outbreak, and that while more people had to be vaccinated, it would not be enough by itself.
He asked 16 German states, most of which set their own policies at Coronavirus Curbs, to introduce more restrictions on this week.
Merkel, who will retreat so next month after 16 years in power, has made a call that is increasingly panicking for Germany to increase the virus battle.
While death is about one-fifth of the level seen last winter, the number of cases has increased at a record speed.
In the eastern state of Saxony the incidence of seven days has surged to almost 1,000 per 100,000 people – almost three times higher than the national average.
Health Minister Jens Spahn said Monday that people who were not vaccinated against Covid were almost certain to catch him in the coming months and some of them would die.
“Only about everyone in Germany might be vaccinated, recovered or die” at the end of this winter, said Spahn at a press conference in Berlin.
He admitted that some people might find a cynical statement.
Spahn said last week he could not override other full locking, after Austria’s neighbors imposed the fourth closure of pandemic that came into force on Monday.
Merkel’s warning, the euro held a decline after Merkel’s comments, fell 0.1% to $ 1.1274.
It traded in 0.2% from 16 months that looked low last week, which came after Austria announced the locking and Spahn suggested that Germany would immediately follow.
The Benchmark Stoxx 600 surrendered at the initial increase as much as 0.4% and turned flat on that day.
Euro Stoxx 50, a gauge for the largest company in the euro area, down 0.3%.
Stock travel and recreation is one of the most difficult blows, with Tui Ag down 0.9%.

In the past week, around 75% of the 2.5 million shots administered were the third dose, while only 13%, or around 329,000, were people getting their early jabs, according to the Ministry of Health.
At that level, only about 10% of the Holdout of an adult country vaccine of nearly 15 million will receive their first dose at the end of this year.
“Immunity will be achieved,” said Spahn.
“The question is whether it is through vaccination or infection, and we expressly recommend the path through vaccination.” The famous Falloutmany pandemic of the famous Germany Christmas market has been canceled for the second year in a row, and people who are not inoculated with faces of curfew.
Starting this week, Bavaria will close the club and bar, while shops must reduce capacity and restaurants must be closed 10 nights.
The most devastated community will face louder restrictions, the state government announces on Friday.
Saxony has also closed the club and bar, among other steps.
The situation in the hospital is increasingly tense, with a clinic preparing to transfer people who are seriously ill to other facilities, according to German Intensive Care Association Divi.
The number of Covid cases in an icus rose around 3,840 on Monday, still below the peak of around 5,750 during the second wave and around 5,100 during the second data, shows.
In the state of Bavaria, Saxony and Thuringia, Covid patients contributed more than 30% of patients in intensive care.
Across the country, there are 2,705 free ICU beds, less than half the capacity available a year ago.
Authorities expect delivery of 6 million doses of Pfizer Inc.-Bionech SE Covid Shot earlier this week in Germany, said Spahn.
However, Booster alone will not be enough to curb infection in the next two weeks and people will need to reduce contacts too, he added.
