Los Angeles: Two doses of vaccine Covid moderna-19 is highly effective against SARS-CoV variant-2, but the protection against infection Delta diminish over time, according to a study conducted in the US.
At the time of the study, a variant Omicron has not been detected in the southern California area, the researchers said.
The study, published in the British Medical Journal on Wednesday, showed the vaccine is effective against hospitalization Covid-19 variant associated with Delta.
However, the effectiveness of a vaccine against a variant moderately decreases with increasing time after vaccination.
“This study confirms the effectiveness of all the variants during the study period, although we found a decrease in effectiveness over time against infection Delta, of the effectiveness of 94 percent in the first 2 months after vaccination 8 months,” said Katia Bruxvoort, of Kaiser Permanente, USA.
“Protection against hospitalization due to variants of delta remains high at 98 percent effectiveness,” said Bruxvoort, lead author of the study.
Started in March 2021, Kaiser Permanente in Southern California began to send specimens of SARS-CoV-2 positive than those symptoms and asymptomatic laboratory contracted for whole genome sequencing.
This study, funded by Modera, including 8153 people who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, with specimens collected from March 1 until July 27 2021.
Among them, 91.3 percent were not vaccinated, 1.4 percent had received one dose of vaccine Covid moderna-19, and 7.3 percent had received two doses of prevention.
The researchers compared those who test positive with those who tested negative.
People who received a two-dose vaccine moderna highly protected against hospitalization Covid-19 associated with a variant of the Delta, they said.
Among those who received the vaccine Covid moderna-19 2-dose, no deaths occurred hospitalization, according to the researchers.
2 doses of vaccine effectiveness Moderna Covid Delta-19 against infection was 87.9 percent among those aged 18 to 64 years, and 75.2 percent among people aged 65 years and over, they said.
“While this study provides convincing evidence of the effectiveness of two doses of vaccine moderna covid-19 in preventing infection and hospitalization Covid-19 for variants including delta, it also has implications for fire booster,” said Hung Fu Tseng, of Kaiser Permanente Department of Research & Evaluation of Southern California.
“The findings of vaccine effectiveness from the vaccine reduced enough Moderna Covid-19 from time to time against infection Delta supports a booster dose recommendation at this time,” Tseng, senior author of the study, added.
