Mangaluru: Central Arecana and Cocoa Marketing and Limited Cooperative Processing (Campco) have condemned the demand reported by Godda MP Nishikant Dubey to ban the use of nuts for human consumption, claiming to cause deadly diseases such as cancer.
MP is reported to state that betel nuts can be allowed to be used for other purposes such as religious ceremonies.
Campco President Kishore Kodgi and Managing Director HM Krishna Kumar, together with the Board of Directors, condemned the statement issued by MP, and would appeal to the prime minister needed for comprehensive scientific research on health benefits, and thus maintaining moral farmers.
They said that the statements of parliamentarians were not only misleading, but they also injured Arecanut farmer sentiments in the region, adding scientists from IISC, Bengaluru in 1974 had reported that Arecanut cure cancer.
The Supreme Court also decided that Arecanut was food in the sense of part 2 (v) prevention of food Pialet Act, Campco was maintained.
Shampoo of Arecanut Entrepreneur and Nivedi Nempe researcher, who has developed several side products Areca, said the government must support the development of alternative use of arecanut.
Arecanut has several drug properties that can be used for the best use, he said.
“We are all ready to launch shampoo prepared from Arecanut.
The launch occurs after a lot of research and testing is finished.
