KABUL: Visiting Pakistani National Security Adviser (NSA) Moeed Yusuf held talks with Taliban officials in Kabul and discussed various topics, including the formation of a shared work committee for the economic growth of the two countries.
The meeting was held on Saturday between the Pakistani delegation led by NSA and high-ranked Taliban officials, including Deputy Second Prime Minister Abdul Salam Hanafi and served as foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, reported Tolo news.
“The Islamic Emirates hold talks about various problems such as politics, trade, economy, transit and extension of bilateral relations,” the Taliban spokesman Inamullah Deputy said Samangan.
Pakistani ambassador to Afghanistan, Mansoor Ahmad Khan, called negotiations between Moeed and Muttaqi “constructive”.
“Moeed Yusuf called the Afghan representative of Prime Minister Mullah (Abdul) Salam Hanafi and discussed the strengthening of Pakistani-Afghanistan’s brotherhood relations to promote trade, transit, connectivity,” Khan said on Twitter.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that during the meeting, Muttaqi asked Joseph to provide additional facilities for Afghan traders, Khaama News reported.
“Afghan transit routes with Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan have been opened and we expect you to provide facilities for our traders,” the statement quoted Muttaqi told NSA.
On his side, Yusuf reaffirmed the commitment of the Pakistani government to provide further facilities for the movement of people at the intersection of Torkham and Chaman.
There were previous reports that the NSA would discuss the recent tension around the Durand line, the De-Facto border intersection between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
But there is no official confirmation of this from the Pakistani Embassy in Kabul or the Government in Islamabad.
After several delays, Moeed finally arrived in Kabul on Saturday.
He is a senior Pakistani third official to visit Afghanistan since the Ruling Taliban in August last year.
Pakistan has not recognized the Taliban regime.
