Mangaluru: With the area that witnessed a decrease in Covid-19 cases, including education institutions, Mangalore University (MU) had planned to continue sports to meet from Monday.
According to MU official, the activity was stopped almost a month, as the area watched the third wave of Covid-19, and burst in positive cases.
Now it has planned to continue with the rest of the sport.
“The current situation is conducive, with a reduction in Covid-19 cases.
According to the plan, we must continue from February 10.
However, it must be postponed until Monday, because of the closure of educational institutions because of the hijab and turmeric shawl rows.
There is uncertainty whether the institution must remain closed or Not.
If there is a positive sign, we will continue with the planned event from Monday, “said Gerald Santhosh D’Souza, Director of Physical Education.
Gerald said that the Badminton ball tournament between universities will begin on Monday, if everything returns to normal.
This will be followed by many other inter-university events.
The next big event is an inter-university cross-country race to be held at the Alva College in Moodbidri.
It is scheduled from March 10 “We also plan to participate in inter-universities held by other universities in all states and countries,” he added.
Sports program began in December last year, and had to be stopped a month later, because of the third wave of Covid-19.
MU has been able to do large events such as the 81st Indian Athletics Championship for Men 2022 and Hockey Inter-universities of the South Zone Hockey for women, which are held in Kodagu.
Even though the event was suspended, there was no limit to training on college land.
Oathletes said that the cancellation of events would affect their careers.
“Because of the pandemic, we only attend several events, and the cancellation of sports or athletics meet will seize us from forming our career,” said a beginner’s sportsman from a private college.
