Hyderabad: The owner of a 61-year-old travel agent from Mumbai has been arrested in the city for trying to buy a 14-year-old girl for Rs 3 Lakh from his family.
Mother, grandmother and six other children were also arrested on Sunday night from Baapur when the deal was beaten.
The police were tipped with locals.
The police said that accusing Syed Althaf Ali had divorced his wife about six years ago and had been looking for someone to care for him.
Ali found the 14-year-old player through the Akeel Ahmed (34) automatic driver from Balatur which was introduced to him by ordinary friends.
Ahmed together with Zareena Begum, Shabana Begum, Shameen Sulthan, Nasreen Begum, Zahaid Bee, all from Balaturur, in the first meeting they had offered the mother and grandmother of Rs 5 Lakh’s son to send him with Ali.
But the deal was unsuccessful because Ali refused to pay more than Rs 3 Lakh.
Recently, the girl’s family ended with financial problems when his uncle met with an accident.
The mother then agreed to sell the girl to Rs 3 Lakh, said Inspector Balatur B Bhaskar, as he added that the father had left the family for a long time.
On Sunday, when Ali reached the house of Zareena Begum in Balatur to complete the deal, the police arrested them.
The defendant was ordered under the IPC section 370, 370 (a) R / W 511, part 17 of Pocso Act and section 3 & 5 ribbons.
