Yangon: A junta of Myanmar on Thursday was sentenced to two people close to the civil leader who was overthrown by Aung San Suu Kyi for two years in prison for incitement, said the source of law told AFP.
The sentence, passed in a special court in the Insein Yangon prison, was the latest blow that attacked the legal campaign of the military authority against the Suu Kyi National League for Democracy (NLD).
This country has been in chaos since February 1, when the generals overthrew the Suu Kyi civilian government after NLD won the general election.
Protests against coups have been filled with cruel power, which leads to death of more than 1,300 civilians, according to local monitoring groups, and drawing hard criticism from the world government.
The NLD senior figures have been hit with criminal charges, including the winner of Nobel Suu Kyi, who faced alleged batteries including corruption and violating official secret laws.
Two members of the NLD Central Committee – Economic Advisor Han Thar Myint and Thein OO – sentenced to two years in prison on Thursday, a legal source close to the case.
Journalists have not been given access to court hearings and lawyers forbidden to talk to the media.
Earlier this month Suu Kyi, who spent years in detention under the previous military regime, was jailed for four years to incitute against the military and violated Covid restrictions.
Head of Junta Min Aung Hlaing then reduced the term to two years and said he would serve his punishment under the capital of Naypyidaw.
