Nagpur: With a surge in Covid-19 cases, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has begun to strengthen its preparation, including increasing the number of test centers, recruiting laboratory technicians, doctors and paramedic staff.
At present, the focus of the NMC on increasing Covid-19 tests (either RT-PCR and fast antigen).
“The number of test centers will increase from 41 to more than 100.
The city commissioner Radhakrishnan has been directed to increase cellular vans because they can reach more citizens and help test testing.
So, NMC will work on an increase in mobile testing van from 10 to 70,” said the city commissioner additional Ram Joshi told toi.
“We will come to the new staff recruited at the new Covid-19 hospital, including AIIMS, the Government of Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), College and Indian Government Hospital (IGGMCH) and NMC Hospital,” Joshi said.
During the second covid wave, apart from 800 NMC staff from the Ministry of Health (medicine), civilian bodies have recruited around 1000 personnel.
“The process for recruiting lab technicians, paramedic staff and doctors has begun,” Joshi said.
Apart from the recruitment of 47 doctors, NMC will also appoint 186 nurses.
In addition, the Civic Agency has also begun to recruit data entry operators that will track Covid patient records.
On Saturday, NMC drives special covid testing in 10 different places in all zones.
Most of these tests are carried out in commercial areas and markets, which are considered super potential spreader.
The Mobile Van Team visited the commercial markets and places in Khamla Bazar, Dhantoli Garden, Eternity Mall, Bhudwari Bazar, Cotton Market, expensive market and Kalamna Bazar, and conducted RT-PCR and Rapid antigen tests.
Joshi said there was a staff crisis in all government hospitals.
With most of the overall sleep capacity for Covid-19 patients in hospitals such as AIIM, GMCH and IGGMCH, NMC will aim to ensure this medical institution works smoothly.
“We will deploy doctors and paramedic staff at this hospital.
NMC has received a request from AIIM for paramedic staff,” Joshi said.
At present, hospitalization of covid patients is low and if it increases, the Civic body will divert some of the staff deployed at the test center to the NMC Hospital.
Joshi said two NMC hospitals, Indira Gandhi Respa and hospital insulation at Imamwada, were also ready to recognize Covid-19 patients.
According to Joshi, this time there will be no shortage of oxygen facilities and beds in the city.
Oxygen plants have been developed in many private places and government hospitals.
