Nagpur: With a large increase in vehicles on the road, Nagpur traffic police have identified 17 intersections that require automatic traffic signals.
This survey also reveals that there are six intersections in which dead signals can be removed.
The survey also found that the metro rail pillar blocked a clear view of the signal in the 20 intersections, causing traffic jams and traffic accidents.
Traffic police have approached Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to overcome this problem without delay.
In a letter to the Commissioner of Radhakrishnan B, the traffic police led by DCP (traffic) Awad’s nest also demanded repairs to 20 non-functional traffic signals throughout the city.
Most of the intersections identified to install traffic signals are in North, East and South Nagpur and in Kamptee, Hingna etc.
outside the NMC limit.
Sai Mandir Square (Indora), Pardi Naka Square (Kamptee), Wathoda Square (Sakkardara), MIDC T-POINT (AMRAVATI ROAD), CRPF Gate (Hingna Road), Square Hasanbagh (Sakkardara), Yadav Nagar Chowk (Jalan Ring Kalamna) , Rani Durgawati Chowk (Indora), Kalamna T-Point (Kampee), Wardhaman Nagar Power House Chowk (Lakadganj) and Prajapati Chowk (Lakadganj) are several places where there are urgent requirements for traffic signals.
To install a new automatic traffic signal, the NMC will require around RS1.53 Crore.
Given the precarious financial conditions that apply, NMC can take a long time to meet the traffic police request.
The driver told TII that with the absence of traffic signals in many intersections, most of them were forced to ignore the norms to pass the traffic of Hapahazard.
It often causes accidents, in addition to placing the lives of road users in danger.
Encrustment and haphazard parking on the road add to the problem.
Traffic experts also say that traffic has increased in the city for years but the authorities concerned are slow to respond.
There is a crossing where the traffic signal is off and the signal is lost in many places.
Traffic Police Have asked Civic’s body to remove signals at Ajni Overbridge Square (Sitabuldi), Munje Chowk (Sitabuldi), Dharampeth Coffee House Square (Sitabuldi), Mohammed Rafi Square (Aware), Mangaldeep Chowk (Aware) and Juna Nandanwan Chowk (aware ) ( Aware).
