NEW YORK: In case you ride an e-scooter, consider security measures as new study indicates that almost 28 percent of all-electric scooters reported accidents were neck and head injuries.
The analysis, published from The Laryngoscope journal, also suggested that neck and head injuries brought on by the usage of e-scooters are rising since rideshare systems have been introduced to the general public in late 2017.
“Since e-scooters turned into a favorite form of transport in major towns, the amount of accidents jumped substantially since they have become more accessible to more individuals,” said researcher Kathleen Yaremchuk by Henry Ford Hospital in the usa.
For the analysis, the group looked at available information from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and discovered that between January 2009 and December 2019 there have been greater than 1,00,000 e-scooter related injuries reported.
The research found that neck and head injuries composed almost 28 percent of their complete e-scooter associated injuries reported.
The research found common kinds of e-scooter associated neck and head injuries comprised internal organs, such as brain injuries, lacerations, contusions and abrasions, concussions and fractures.
The researchers emphasised passengers to put on a helmet, elbow and knee pads.
“Wear suitable clothes that will not constrict your own body when riding.
Know the specifications, characteristics and abilities of the particular e-scooter you’re riding,” the staff stated.
“See traffic legislation, concentrate on the trail ahead and see for pedestrians, cars and other obstructions,” it added.
