Paris: Nearly 60 percent of the population of adults in France has received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, hit the government’s target previously set for the end of August, President Emmanuel Macron announced.
So far, France has given the first dose to 40 million people, with 4 million residents who have received shots in the past two weeks, the Xinhua news agency quoted Macron said in Twitter posts on Monday.
“All together, we will defeat the virus.
We will continue,” added the President.
Until now, around 33.26 million people in France have been fully vaccinated against the virus, almost half of the 67 million people of the country, according to the Ministry of Health.
In an effort to return to the pre-pandemic daily life, the French government has vowed to accelerate the launch of the vaccine to reduce the infection related to Coronavirus and contain the spread of a more contagious Delta variant that triggers other waves.
Starting from the beginning of August, only those who have completed their vaccination, negative testing or recently recovered from Covid-19 will be allowed to enter the restaurant and cafe, go to shopping centers, fitness centers, and even hospitals except emergency.
Since the beginning of the pandemic earlier last year, France has reported a total of 5,999,244 confirmed Coronavirus cases and 111,667 deaths.
