Chennai: Immediately, you can buy a Smart Metro Rail card for Rs 150 at your neighbor’s grocery store or Shop Pictty before you walk to the station to take the train, because Chennai Metro Rail Limited has begun to assign official agents to sell this card.
This step will prevent passengers from waiting in a long queue at the metro station to buy a smart card.
However, commuting can recharge these cards for the next trip only at the metro station.
“We introduce this facility because many commuters do not want to wait among them at the ticket counter to buy these cards.
It will also encourage more people to buy smart cards if available in stores or anywhere in their neighborhood,” said an official Metro rail.
Passengers can buy smart cards from any agent authorized by CMRL for Rs 150 and can travel for ₹ 100 with him before he refills for further travel.
Officials say while commuting will get a 20% discount for their tickets with smart cards, official agents will get a 5% commission for sale cards.
On Thursday, the first set of metro train travel cards was given to R premnath, official agent, by Pradeep Yadav, Director of Implementing, CMRL.
Officials say those who want to register as agents must fill out the forms available at the Metro station and provide PAN account numbers, GST and Bank.
After researching, the agent issued an authorization letter along with promotional materials that will have details about smart cards and discounts available for commuters.
“We invite people to register themselves as an official agent.
We also approach shop owners and others themselves and ask them to become our agents,” said an official.
In the release, CMRL said those who were willing to become an agent can contact Helpline CMRL 18604251515, email at Customercare@cmrl.in or call 9445196185.
