The state government has decided to increase monthly honoral to Rs 26,000 to 28,000 from Rs 11,000 for guest lecturers.
The candidates who have cleaned the UGC-Net or completed their PhD, will be paid by Rs 30,000 to RS 32,000 (RS 13,000 previous salaries).
Karnataka has around 14,000 guest faculties.
“I have worked at a college as a guest faculty for several days a week, and the rest of the day in a private company.
However, I will not be able to continue.
Besides that, I am not sure if I will maintain my job,” said a faculty visitor.
The President of the Udupi District Lecturer Association, President Shahida Jahan said that the government had distributed sweets to several guest lecturers, and made the rest unemployed in a day.
“All existing guest faculties must be convinced of work security and full salary for 12 months a year,” he insisted.
