Guwahati: The CBI on Wednesday night captured electric electricity engineer Frontier Railway (NFR), VK Upadhyay, in connection with a bribery case where the investigation body on Tuesday arrested the deputy defendant, Ranjit Kumar Borah, and Bribe Giver Niraj Kumar while exchanging bribes Rs 15 lakh at the NFR head office.
Agency also holds the Director of Patna-based company, Chintan Jain, in connection with this case.
Niraj Kumar is a company employee.
Instant cases are registered on Tuesday against Borah, Jain, Kumar and other unknown civil servants and private people.
However, during the investigation of this case, the alleged involvement of Upadhyay was in the future.
After this, the agency captures upadhyay.
The agency conducted a search in nine locations, including Guwahati, Patna and Noida at the defendant’s place, which led to the recovery of total cash around Rs 2.19 Crore and some burdensome documents.
The agency recovered cash around RS 2.13 Crore from a total restored amount along with the details of three flats from the residence of Upadhayay and cash around Rs 6 lakh along with details of six flats in the name of Borah and their family members from their residence in Guwahati.
The agency said, “Allegedly Borah, while posted as Deputy Chairperson of the Electrical Engineer (Construction) in NF Railway, has obtained two non-moving (flat) properties as alleged illegal satisfaction from the Director of the Patna-based company above.” Furthermore, it was declared that the defendant was suspected of demanding RS 2,10 Crore bribes from Jain as a replacement for the flat to extend the beneficial allowance to him in the past and guaranteed to expand the unpopular assistance in the future.
