Nagpur: To increase the green cover and preserve the environment in the city, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has proposed to reward two meters tall plant for every citizen.
If the plant is to survive, the residents will get a 2% property tax rebate.
Civic body also plans to conduct a tree census using new technologies.
It is part of the municipal action plan B Radhakrishnan commissioner for three years.
By gifting puppies, NMC expect to add more than 20 lakh trees in the city.
In accordance with the civil body, estimates the current population is 29 lakh and according to the tree census conducted in 2011, the city had 21,43,838 trees.

“GIS and GPS technology will be used in the census of trees.
Applications for tree census will be developed.
Each tree will be given a unique identity code.

Radhakrishnan wanted to introduce Miyawaki plantation on 80,000 sq mt of land.
“The NMC is the company’s first city to do plantation Miyawaki (5,000 sq mt in Bhandewadi disposal yard).
Bank land to increase the green cover has been identified in Bhandewadi disposal of yard, regional Smart Cities Pardi, Punapur, Bharatwada and Bhandewadi, Seminary Hills, open space of NADT, PDKV and VNIT etc.
1.84 lakh trees have been planted by the NMC in the last five years , 20,000 trees will be planted every year, “he said.
Radhakrishnan wanted to widen the road passing through Sitabuldi market from Variety Square to Loha Pul.
“The NMC will promote transit oriented development (TOD) for integrating land use and transport planning, and also aims at development centers planned and sustainable urban growth.

NMC has converted 45km of road from tar for cement in 2011 and increased to 185.5km in 2021.
