Nagpur: Restrictions of wasteful spending and focus on increasing recovery from the source of income itself leads Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to record satisfactory income in the first half of the financial year today.
Against the target of Rp2.79.07 Crore set for the financial year by the Chairperson of the Bhoyar Prakash Committee, NMC has resulted in revenue RS1.131.2 Crore between April 1 and September 30.
Commissioner of the city of Radhakrishnan B has projected the NMC RS2.607.6 Crore budget for current fiscal.
The body of half a year civilian body reached around 80.9% of the revenue target.
NMC continues to depend on government grants for income because the Civic’s body produces less than 37% through its own source, while it receives almost 62% in the form of government grants, including GST.
In the first six months of the current financial year, the NMC received RS826.17 Crore as a grant of the state government, including RS701.87 Crore as GST.
NMC income from its own source such as water, property tax and the city planning department is only Crore RS305.03.
Only the income of the city planning department has exceeded the target.
Against the annual target of RS86.19 Crore, the department mopped RS1,4.97 Crore in the first six months.
With six more months remaining in the current financial year, the department tends to generate additional income from RS50 Crore, said source.
Poor Performance Department of Property Tax Continues.
To keep participating in the RS289.43 Crore target, NMC should produce RS144.71 Crore, but only creates RS97.42 Crore.
The Department of Water Poor Performance also continues.
Against the revenue target of the RS201 Crore, the department has contributed RS82.81 Crore in the first half of the current fiscal.
There are other sources of income that can contribute to the majority in increasing the sources of NMC’s own income, including market departments, plantations and advertisements.
These three departments have so far contributed a little RS3.83 Crore.
DEP in income has pushed the Civic body to tighten the wallet’s string.
Radhakrishnan has limited civil works.
The source said the civil head had taken several steps to limit NMC expenditure.
“Only works with higher priorities that are permitted to continue,” said sources from the NMC Public Works Department.
Citing another example, the source said the citizenship administration also had not fully continued the city bus operations due to crunch crunch.
By opposing 400-odd bus Aapli, NMC only operates 290 buses.
