Oslo: Norway said on Monday that the March 10 cyber attack on the parliamentary email system was conducted from China, called for the authorities there to take steps to prevent these activities.
“This is a serious incident that has hit our most important democratic institution,” Foreign Minister Eniksen Soereide said in a statement.
Investigation by state intelligence services has revealed the attack came from China and several Norwegian allies, the European Union and Microsoft, also confirmed this conclusion, he added.
The Chinese Embassy in Norway was not immediately available to comment.
Chinese officials had previously said China was also a victim of hacking and opposed all forms of cyberattacks.
The attack has used security holes in Microsoft Exchange software.
Separately, the United States and the Allied Coalition on Monday accused the Chinese Ministry of Finance from a global cyber hacking campaign, specifically linking with a broader Microsoft attack was revealed earlier this year.
Norwegian Foreign Minister said that the Chinese Ambassador to Norway had been called to discuss this issue directly and that he expected China to take this matter very seriously.
“The Chinese authority must prevent such an attack from happening,” he said.
