New York City will eliminate the current quarantine policy of all classrooms exposed to the Coronavirus and will prioritize increased testing programs so asymptomatic students who test the negative for Covid-19 can remain at school, officials said on Tuesday.
Steps to show health officials increases focus on testing and trying to avoid the old isolation period.
The day before, US centers for controlling and prevention of disease (CDC) shortened the isolation time suggested for Americans with the cases of Covid-19 to five days asymptomatic from the previous 10 day guide.
President Joe Biden has promised to facilitate the lack of Covid-19 tests with Omicron variants who threatened to defeat the hospital and planned a travel plan because they spread throughout this vacation week.
New York’s new policy was explained by Mayor Bill De Blasio as “remains safe, and remains open” and will apply on January 3.
About one million students attending the New York City Public School are scheduled to return from vacation holidays on Monday.
New York City Major elected Eric Adams, De Blasio and New York Governor Kathy Hochul made an announcement at a press conference.
New York City aims to detect more infections while reducing disruption when officials describe distance learning as “failed experiments”.
The previous New York City policy was to quarantine close contact which did not divide students who were infected for 10 days.
Instead of sending students who are not vaccinated home to study online when a student tests positive Covid-19, students will be given a quick test at home.
If they do not show symptoms and negative tests, they can return the day after their first negative test.
Students will then be given a test at the second house within seven days after their exposure, according to the announcement.
The move raises some worries among parents.
One tweeted that the school must be maintained long-distance at least for a pillow a week after the potential for holiday meetings and travel exposure.
Others request mandatory testing for all children, and school employees.
New York will also limit the number of people permitted at Times Square for New Year’s Eve celebrations in response to a surge in a new Coronavirus case driven by a very contagious Omicron variant.
Separately, Biden on Tuesday revoked a proclamation imposed last month which imposed restrictions on traveling on eight South African countries, including South Africa, after the emergence of the Omicron variant.
