Odisha: Empty cities as migrants return to vote in rural polls

Bhubaneswar: Towards the election of Panchayat, cities emptied migrant workers, who returned to their village to vote.
Work and workers are mostly involved in the construction and hospitality industry and street vendors who have returned home, increasing their employer’s headaches.
Although the five phase rustic polls began on Wednesday, the majority of the city workers had gone first to enjoy the party thrown by candidates where food, liquor and free is being distributed.
“All my workers have gone to their village to vote.
They say candidates distribute food, liquor, money and other items before the election.
They say they will miss Freebies and pleasure and excitement if they live here,” said Pramod Maharana, a civil contractor.
Starting from a plumber to carpenters, painters to street vendors, waiters, drivers, assistance and domestic waiters, most have returned to villages.
“The choice of Panchayat was arrested after five years.
If we are not present now, those who are selected may not help us in the future when we need it.
In addition, it is our constitutional right and we must use it,” said the nayak, a carpenter from Dhenkanal District.
“Over the past week, one or more households in the village did not feel the need to cook at home.
One candidate or the other has served a food party or hosting.
Whoever wins, we don’t want to miss this gift,” Shiva Rao said, “said Shiva Rao, A mason from the Ganjam district.
The absence of workers has been about several projects.
“One of my customers has planned a home heating ceremony on February 20.
Only the touch-up was left.
But with all my workers returned to their village, I am now in improvement,” said Golk Pradhan, another contractor.
