Bhubaneswar: The government on Friday put aside the possibility of a worrying threat from the floods that will come in several parts of the country after fresh assessment of the situation.
While the water flow to the Hirakud reservoir from Chhattisgarh gradually reduced, the flow of water from a series of mundali near the peak will be under eight cubic legs per second (cusec) early on Saturday.
With the exception of Subarnarekha, the water level of all other large rivers in this country goes down.
Confirming development, Special Assistance Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Kumar Jena, said, “Maybe there is no major problem in the Mahanadi river system.
The flow of water from a series of mundali on Saturday morning will be a little more than 7.5 lakh cusec, but far less than eight lakh Cusec, which will not lead to a worrying situation.
“At 12 noon on Friday, the strength of the water release in Mundali around 6.49 lakh cusec.
Jena said without a significant rain in the last 24 hours, the amount of water flowing to the Hirakud reservoir had diminished from five lakh cusec to 4.70 lakh cusec.
Reservoir was issuing 4.84 lakh cusec through 28 of his sluice gate.
Among the other rivers, low-cost water level in Baitarani, Brahmani Budhabalanga and Jalaka.
Subarnarekha is the only river where the surface of the water still rises.
This can cause flooding in the lowlands of Bhogarai and Baliiapal in Balasore.
The district government is ready to overcome any possibility, Jena said.
SRC sent a message to the district collector who asked them to remain vigilant considering the new prediction IMD heavy rain for the next three days.
He, however, said there was no reason to worry about the rain likely to be triggered by cyclone circulation above Bay Bay.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for the strong possibility of heavy rain in one or two places in Bhadrak, Balalasore and Mayurbukkanj on Saturday.
For Sundays, it has predicted heavy rain in Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, JagatsingHpur, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Malkangiri and Coraput in addition to three other districts.
