Bhubaneswar: BJP Parliament Member on Wednesday met with consumer, food and public distribution, Piyush Goyal, and looked for its intervention in resolving the issue of alleged mismanagement and corrupt practices in the operation of rice procurement in Odisha.
They also asked for operations to direct the Odisha government to follow the suggestions / recommendations of the Fact Finding Team of the Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD) for timely procurement of agriculture.
“We want to attract your attention to the scutling of rice procurement in Odisha by the state government which causes great trouble for state farmers,” said MPs in their letters to the minister.
They added that the observation of the central team about the operation of rice procurement in Odisha was serious in nature and demonstrated the practices of malecual / corrupt that were common in the centers of regulated market procurement / market committee / primary agricultural credit (PACS).
MPS stated that against the official window of 151 days, the actual procurement window varied from 40-43 days in several regulated market committees.
