Bhubaneswar: In an effort to strengthen police posts, the Odisha government has decided to appoint sub-inspectors (SIS) to lead these units.
Previously, officers at the rank of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) were heading to the police station.
At least 216 police posts have functions under the control of the police station throughout the state.
The Chairman of the Naveen Patnaik Minister on Tuesday approved the appointment of SIS to lead the posts.
“The front post of 216 police who came under the Police of Komarisansi, District Police and the Government Train Police would now be manned by SIS.
Training and their experience will help control the crime and law and the order situation at the outpost level,” said the written message from the office of the chairman Minister.
The National Police Headquarters recently sent a proposal to the state government to appoint sis to lead the police post.
“We are very grateful to @naveen_odisha for making 216 posts sis to lead the police post.
Our post function will increase.
We will be able to serve people better,” read posts from the official Twitter twitter handle.
It should be noted that the government has appointed ASI to lead the posts as a police station that was once led by SIS.
Because the police station is now pioneered by inspector ranking officers, the government wants to increase the rank of head of the leading post from breast milk to SI.
“We have the advantage now with the appointment of SIS as Head of Post” Additional Director General of Police (Crime Branch) Sanjeeb Panda said.
In accordance with existing practices, the leading post can receive complaints and send it to the police station concerned for registration of formal or fir.
After registration of this case, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) from the police station concerned will assign postal officers to investigate this case.
“When heading towards a small unit (outpost), sis will get exposure and experience to head the police station in the future when they are promoted to the rank of inspectors,” Panda said.
