Bhubaneshwar: The first visit of the Hyderabad partner to the temple of Puri Jagannath turned traumatic after a priest persecuted a 12-year-old daughter inside the temple on Friday night.
The police arrested Dash (27) on Saturday.
The incident occurred in the Temple of Bamana, one of the subsidiary temples in the vast jagannath temple complex.
At least 136 small temples and subsidiaries are in the famous 12th century temple in Puri.
Dash allegedly committed a violation when minors offered prayer.
There was no other devotion present when the alleged violation occurred.
His parents were waiting outside the Bamana temple when he was running out shrinkled.
He told his ordeal to his parents, who filed a complaint at the Singhadwar police station outside the temple.
The police held the Dash on Friday night and arrested him a day later under the relevant section of the protection of children from the acts of sexual violations (Pocso).
The girl’s statement was recorded before Judge Judicial on Friday night itself.
The Puri Police Supervisor (SP) Kanwar Vishal Singh said the police took this problem very seriously.
“All legal actions needed are immediately taken,” said Singh.
Taking a strong note of the incident, Puri Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has written a letter to the district administration and the temple body to take steps for the safety of women and children in the temple.
