Bhubaneswar: Even though the rules for prescribing direct suspension of SIM (DL) violators of traffic regulations, the implementation has been very bad in the state.
Statistics of the Department of Transportation said DL was only 5% to 22% of the total violators suspended this year.
The Supreme Court Committee on road safety on August 18, 2015 directed all countries to suspend DLS for three months to five large violations – overspeeding, overloading in the train goods, driving drinking, using and riding a helmet.
Data shows that the suspension of DL on excessive violations is 10.94% between January and September this year.
DL’s suspension towards a violation of cellphone use while driving was 20.45%, towards Drunken driving 22.61% and headed without a driving helmet 5.82%.
The Supreme Court Committee expressed a strong displeasure of the enforcement of poor DL enforcement.
“We have asked district collectors, regional transportation officers and police supervisors to improve the enforcement of DL suspension,” said Transport Minister Padmanabh Behera.
The transportation department said RTOS was asked to provide the safety of roads and first aid training to candidates.
Before the DL exam, road safety training and first aid will be given to applicants, said Behera.
For detection of violations of traffic rules such as excessive driving and the wrong side, the CCTV camera surveillance system is being implemented throughout the stretch of Jankia-Chhatia in the state.
Collectors in Sundargarh and Keonjhar have initiated the process of implementing CCTV cameras in their districts.
