Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the Election of Panchayat, a village in Sundargarh Regency held a written and verbal test from Sarpance candidate to see if they were suitable for their representatives.
On Thursday, eight of the nine candidates in Fray from Ward number 8 Kutra Panchayat appeared for the exam, whose results would be placed in the presence of villagers, leaving voters to choose the right candidate.
Polling in Kutra is scheduled for February 18, the second day of the five phase selection that began on February 16.
Pradeep Lakra (38), drop out of school who is now a farmer, is one of the brains behind the test.
Lakra said the candidates for Sarpanch were told about the test a week before.
“While eight of them came to the venue, elementary school in the area, one candidate did not appear, claiming he held a marriage to be attended,” said Lakra.
The candidates took two tests one by one.
They were given seven questions to be answered in 30 minutes.
In the first 15 minutes, they must respond verbally, while in the next 15 they must write the answer to the same question.

The villagers said there was no pass / failed in the test.
It’s just an assessment that will judge individual voters themselves.
They chose Thursday because they went to church on the same day and everything was available to listen to candidates, they said.
